The Ravenous Dead - Natasha Hoar Too short for my taste but so entertaining!

Rachel Miller has a lot on her paranormal plate, she's an amazing medium who aids spirits cross over and is also currently playing the role of teacher for protege Kit Elkeles, a teenage boy with some extraordinary powers of his own. When the paranormal community is threatened by a murderer, Rachel has the suspicion that a demon from her past has resurfaced, a reaper, set out to consume Kit's soul next. To get this murderer off the streets she'll have to face the monster who stole her beloved mentor from her grasps...again.

I have to say the title of this book may be a bit misleading, but the story doesn't disappoint. Immediately I thought I'd be in for some zombie killing heroine but was given an intriguing new world by Natasha Hoar that I could not put down! Rachel is a bold heroine who walks the line between trying to do the right thing and using all her resources to protect those closest to her, whatever the consequences (like any great hero!).

While there's no romantic feelings between her and Kit, there's plenty of fun flirting on his part that leads me to believe there may be something more later down the road between these two. Although this is my first book by the author (I didn't realize this was book #2...this happens to me all the time!) there's a sense of familiarity with these characters that I really love. The "reaper element" adds a dark and suspenseful tone that will keep you guessing.

The Ravenous Dead is an exciting new voice in Urban Fantasy that jumps right into the action and charms you with its fun characters. It's a perfect mix of dark and gritty with a bit of humor at times. I can't wait to see where the author takes this supernatural world she's created and what lies ahead for Rachel and Kit!

*This book can be read as a stand alone but I'll be downloading the first installment to get a better feel for the story and characters!
