Dark Magick ( The Gatekeeper Series #1) - Stacey Thompson-Geer, Stevie Trinity < a href="http://romancingthedarkside.blogspot.com/2011/07/review-dark-magick-by-stacey-thompson.html">Romancing the Dark Side Review:

A paranormal apocalyptic battle of good vs. evil!

Rhea, a healer and Lynn, a warrior, are two witches fighting to keep evil supernatural creatures from passing through the gateways and into their world. As freedom fighters, they work together to keep the gateways closed, ensuring the survival of the all the innocent in the midst of this war. Blessed by the Goddess, Rhea and Lynn have exceptional powers and a strong bond with each other. Using all their magic, and with the help of some friends, they must find a young witch who holds the key to closing the gateways and saving their world. Through their journey they will face love, pain, loss, and betrayal to ultimately be victorious.

This was a fast, action paced story in a dark and dangerous world. The main characters are two strong heroines who will stop at nothing to protect the innocent and end an ongoing war. The story is told in 1st person narrative by the two main characters, Rhea and Lynn and jumps from the past to the present very often. I have to admit the story was a little hard to follow and confusing at times, I often had to flip back and forth to check who's point of view I was reading (I'll have to blame that on the un-edited ARC I read). The magical and paranormal elements are described in detail throughout the story, at times interfering with the plot.

The main characters and supporting characters are all well developed and the plot is very original, witches vs. witches with the addition of some Fae and other paranormals. The suspense builds up to the very end and will have you on edge. The ending leaves you with an unexpected cliffhanger but not the kind that makes you throw the book across the room and scream!

Dark Magick has a good balance of action, romance and suspense. I had mixed feelings about this book but by the end found it to be an engrossing story of strong characters coming together for the greater good. I'm curious to know what happens next for these characters!
